Rachael Overton, Special Education teacher at Cedar Trails Exploration Center – Early Childhood, was honored at USD 232’s Convocation on August 11, 2026, with the Making a Difference Award for her outstanding contributions to the district. This award, sponsored by the USD 232 Education Foundation in partnership with Great American Bank, recognizes educators and staff who go above and beyond to positively impact the lives of our students, families, and staff.
Rachael was nominated by the parents of one of her students because of her passion and skill in teaching children with special needs.
They shared,
“Mrs. Rachael has been a phenomenal team member in our daughter’s education. Mrs. Rachael has been so in tune and in touch with her behavioral needs and has kept clear open lines of communication with us.
“Mrs. Rachael has never judged or made us feel less than when we have struggled to find strategies to support the classroom at home. Mrs. Rachael has gone to such great lengths to help our daughter feel as though she belongs and never othered. She began riding the bus, and Mrs. Rachael has worked to send home reports on how things are going day to day. She often emails us with updates on new strategies in the classroom we can implement at home because she understands our daughter thrives on routine.
“I know that her classroom involves more than just Mrs. Rachael as teaching staff, but in our short time of working and knowing her, I firmly believe she is deeply passionate for the work of special education and any child would be blessed to learn from her.”
In recognition of her dedication, Rachael received $300 from the USD 232 Education Foundation through its partnership with Great American Bank, along with a handcrafted award designed by students in the CTEC CAPS program.
Rachael’s expertise, compassion, and commitment to student support represent what the Making a Difference Award is all about. Her influence extends beyond the classroom, enriching the lives of her students and equipping their families for success at school and at home.
