Macy Thomas Recognized with Making a Difference Award

Macy Thomas, teacher at Horizon Elementary, has been honored with the Making a Difference Award for September 2025. This award, sponsored by the USD 232 Education Foundation in partnership with Great American Bank, celebrates educators and staff who go above and beyond to make a meaningful impact on students’ lives.

Although Macy only joined the district in 2023, she has already made a remarkable impression on those around her — from her students in kindergarten through fourth grade, to her colleagues and the families she supports. She is known for her excellent classroom management, engaging lessons, and commitment to maximizing student learning. Her ability to connect with students and collaborate closely with parents exemplifies the care and professionalism that define her work each day.

The parent shared in their nomination:

“Macy is a one-of-a-kind teacher. She shares her passion for learning and really gets to know her students' needs by getting to know them. She's always got a great attitude and has been fantastic to work with. She goes above and beyond what is expected of her consistently, helping identify the needs of her students.”

In recognition of her commitment and care, Macy received a $300 check from the USD 232 Education Foundation through its partnership with Great American Bank, along with a handcrafted award created by students in the CTEC CAPS program.

Macy’s enthusiasm for teaching and her dedication to helping every student reach their potential embody the heart of the Making a Difference Award. Her positive impact on USD 232 continues to inspire students, families, and colleagues every day.
