Some challenges students face are personal and beyond what tax dollars can cover — circumstances that could keep them from attending school or focusing on learning.
The Wimmer Student Care Fund exists to fill this gap — providing short-term support for students and families during times of need.
Funded entirely by staff donations, we’re able to provide quick, flexible assistance so students can stay in school and on track. With a simple request submitted by your school leadership — funds can be granted to help with urgent needs.
Together your generosity has helped:
Provide clothes and shoes for a middle schooler experiencing homelessness.
Cover testing fees and clothing for a mom with cancer and her daughters.
Provide shoes, a sweater, hat, and gloves for a student.
Fund car repairs so a family can reach medical treatments.
Provide new clothes for a student with only one set.
Pay for a senior’s cap and gown.
Cover lunch balances for three children during their mother’s illness.
Provide gym clothes for a student whose family lost income.
Provide debate clothes for a student their family couldn’t afford.
Provide new clothes for a student wearing the same outfit daily.
Cover enrollment fees, shoes, and coats for six children of a single mom.
Provide clothes and shoes for a middle schooler wearing the same outfit for weeks.
Provide clothing for a high schooler with no change of clothes.
Cover AP testing fees for a student.
Help relocate a homeless family from a shelter.
The fund was created in 2010 by the USD 232 Board of Education to honor Dr. Ron Wimmer’s service as superintendent and his commitment to students and families. In 2022, management of the fund was transferred to the USD 232 Education Foundation.
Families touched by the Student Care Fund have expressed overwhelming gratitude — some even in tears of joy. The contributions of USD232 staff make these moments possible, and we invite you to be part of more stories like these for our students.
