USD 232 Education Foundation Honors De Soto High School Teacher with Making a Difference Award
The USD 232 Education Foundation is proud to recognize Scott Sharp, a Science teacher at De Soto High School, as the May 2025 recipient of the Making a Difference Award. This award, sponsored in partnership with Great American Bank, honors exceptional educators and staff who make a lasting impact on students’ lives through their dedication and compassion.
Mr. Sharp was presented with the award on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, during the district’s annual Convocation event for staff, held this year at Mill Valley High School.
Nominated by a parent, Mr. Sharp was praised for transforming a once-dreaded subject into a daily highlight. The parent shared (summarized):
“My daughter was dreading anatomy and physiology, but Mr. Sharp went above and beyond to make learning fun. She came home every day excited to share what she learned in his class. He sparked her love for learning — I think he is a real treasure at De Soto High School.”
The nomination also highlighted another example of Mr. Sharp’s commitment. Upon hearing students express frustration over difficult math homework, he took it upon himself to learn the material so he could help them through their study packet — a clear demonstration of his willingness to go the extra mile.
Mr. Sharp truly embodies the spirit of the Making a Difference Award. His passion for learning and unwavering support for students make him a standout educator in our district.
In recognition of his impact, Mr. Sharp received a $300 check, courtesy of Great American Bank, and a custom-designed award created by students in the CTEC CAPS program.
Congratulations to Mr. Sharp! Thank you for making a difference in the lives of your students and our school community.
