Sydney Thompson, fifth grade teacher at Clear Creek Elementary, was recently honored with the Making a Difference Award for her exceptional commitment to supporting students and fostering a welcoming, engaging classroom environment. The award is sponsored by the USD 232 Education Foundation in partnership with Great American Bank and recognizes educators and staff who go above and beyond to positively impact students’ lives.

Sydney is known for recognizing each student’s unique needs and intentionally creating a classroom culture where they feel valued and included. Her thoughtful approach helps students feel like part of a team and encourages both confidence and connection.

In their nomination, a grateful parent noted how Sydney’s alternative seating arrangement has been a catalyst for learning. By offering a variety of flexible seating options, Sydney allows students to experience a variety of learning spaces that support comfort, focus, and engagement. This setup reflects her understanding that classrooms thrive when instruction and space are intentionally centered on students.

Equally impactful is Sydney’s strong communication with families. Parents consistently note her responsiveness and care, which helps build trust and reassurance beyond the classroom walls.

In recognition of her dedication, Sydney received $300 from the USD 232 Education Foundation through its partnership with Great American Bank, along with a handcrafted award designed by students in the CTEC CAPS (Cedar Trails Exploration Center, Center for Advanced Professional Studies) program.

Sydney’s compassion, creativity, and commitment to student well-being exemplify the spirit of the Making a Difference Award. Her work continues to make a meaningful impact on students and families, ensuring that every child is supported and ready to learn.
