Grant Funds Support Commissioned Music for LTMS Band

Thanks to an Innovative Teaching Grant from the USD 232 Education Foundation, band students at Lexington Trails Middle School will perform an original work written specifically for them.

Band Instructor Rob Foster worked with Grace Baugher Dunlap, a composer from Olathe, Kansas, to write the original music which involved LTMS students throughout the entire process. The grant from the USD 232 Education Foundation also allowed students to meet with Mrs. Dunlap about the composition process, giving special insight to how a composer creates original music.

Once the music was written, the 7th & 8th grade band students began rehearsals with Mrs. Dunlap and Mr. Foster and plan to perform the new work called Delirium. The premiere performance is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13, at the LTMS Spring Band Concert, at 7:00 p.m.
