ELEVATE! Grant: Energy in Action

Lisa Turney, science teacher at Mill Valley High School, was awarded a USD 232 Education Foundation ELEVATE! Grant in the first quarter of the school year.

Lisa's grant request focused on providing students with an opportunity to explore physical science concepts in an engaging and hands-on way. By expanding experiential learning opportunities, she has found that even students who initially have little interest in science can develop a genuine enthusiasm for learning.

With the funds from the grant, Lisa purchased a variety of tools that allowed her students to explore all forms of energy and work. After the introduction of the new lab equipment, 87.5% of students scored 85% or higher on lab questions tied to the energy concepts taught using the grant-funded materials, and 100% of students were actively engaged in the lesson.

This project demonstrates what is possible when grant support opens the door to hands-on, meaningful learning. With the right resources, students are not only better equipped to succeed academically but are also more confident and engaged in their learning.
